Major themes include the new rule on body checking, the new rule on delayed offsides, the emphasis placed on play the head (e.g. head contact and helmet removal), and the continued focus on the strict standard of play. We also discussed the CHC mandated penalty durations and the policy for continuing a game when there a no team officials available. | Dec 2010 training - Intentional Offsides | 9:05 PM, Dec 21 2010 |
December's training topic was Intentional Offsides. We covered how the current rule contains some "gray area" language and some language left over from previous rulebooks that may lead to inconsistency in the application of this rule. We simplified the rule, concentrating on whether or not there was the possibility of a legal play at the determining edge. The presentation material is available here and in the Downloads section. |

| Nov 2010 training material now available | 1:04 PM, Dec 21 2010 |
November's training session was about how your focus areas should shift between a linesman and a referee when working in a two man system. The concept that was discussed is that each of the two officials has a fuel tank. Depending on where an official is on the ice surface, his/her fuel tank may be more full of referee fuel (meaning the primary focus should be on calling the game as a referee) than linesman fuel. As play moves and the officials move, the mix of fuel in the fuel tank changes. The presentation material is available here or in the Downloads section. |
